Amazing Running Events in London

06Feb

If you’re an avid racer, long-distance runner, or a marathon marathoner, then London has plenty of great and exciting runs for you to take part in. Whether you’re just visiting, or living in London and looking to be more active, these are definitely well worth considering.

ParkRun

Not quite a run in itself, but ParkRun is a weekly tradition designed to bring people together on Saturday mornings. Meet your locals and go for a 5k run in a local park. There are over 50 running groups for ParkRun across the capital, so find your nearest one and make some new friends whilst getting fit.

Cancer Research Winter Run

Cancer Research UK Winter Run (February 9)

The largest 10k run in London, the Cancer Research Winter Run is the first major running event in the London calendar. There will be over 20,000 people taking part in this run, but it requires a charity place to take part in this run.

The Big Half (March 1)

If you’re not quite ready for the London Marathon, but want some of the thrill, then the Big Half is a good starting place. Tickets sell out way in advance, but there are often plenty of charity places available if you can raise enough for them! The race starts at Tower Bridge and finishes in Greenwich through a winding route along the Thames.

Vertical Rush (March 12)

Head for the skies in this run, if it can be called a run. This is a mad upwards dash in Tower 42, which boasts 932 steps, 42 floors, and an amazing view for a finish line. To take part in this race requires raising and committing £180 to the homeless charity Shelter.

adidas City Runs – 1 Hour (April 5)

A race with no finish line, apart from time. Simply run for one hour and see how far you get. The route is a closed road, and passes plenty of historic landmarks so it comes with a great view. It sounds like quite a liberating experience, actually.

Vitality London 10,000

Imagine being able to do just the last stretch of the London Marathon, and getting all that victory and praise, but by only having to run 10k. Well, then this is definitely a race for you.

Richmond RunFest 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon (September 12-13)

A great weekend running activity if you’re just looking for a good challenge. Run through Kew Gardens and along the Richmond riverside in what is one of the prettiest running routes in London.
